AWARDS, PRIZES, AND LECTURESHIPS:

• In 2005 Dr. Triantaphyllou received an LSU Distinguished Faculty Award. This prestigious LSU award recognizes faculty members with sustained records in teaching, research, service, and/or any combination of the three. LSU’s Executive Vice-Chancellor and Provost Risa Palm and LSU’s Chancellor Sean O’Keefe presented this award to him during a special LSU faculty award ceremony in May 2006.

• In 2005 Dr. Triantaphyllou received a Certificate of Commendation from the LaSPACE Undergraduate Research Assistant Program. LaSPACE is a special NASA program at LSU. He received this distinction for serving as a Faculty Mentor for the LaSPACE LURA Program during the 2004-2005 school year. That was based on a project he did with his former undergraduate student Hunter A. Marks.
  
  
• In November of 2004 Dr. Triantaphyllou won the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award while he was with the IE (Industrial Engineering) Departmnet at LSU.



• CONGRATULATIONS to Hunter A. Marks! for receiving a special NASA/NIAC award to present a poster titled "Towards a Decision Support System for Selecting a Landing Site on Mars." Hunter is one of six students that have been selected as part of NASA's NSVFP program and he will present this idea in Seattle, WA, in October 19-20, 2004. • CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Xiaoting Wang! Xiaoting is a Ph.D. student working with Dr. Triantaphyllou. She received an Award by the Governor’s Office (State of Louisiana) on Environmental Education of $1,000 to use towards her research. Her research is on Multi-Criteria Decision Making: Theory and Applications. This award was given after a statewide competition. • CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Hunter A. Marks! Hunter is an undergraduate student in the IE Department at LSU working on research with Dr. Triantaphyllou. Hunter and Dr. Triantaphyllou received a LURA Award by the LaSpace Program in the State of Louisiana (this is a special program supported by NASA) to work on research related to Multi-Criteria Decision Making for some space related problems. This award comes with a $5,000 budget to support this research. This award was given after a statewide competition.

• CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Vetle I. Torvik (Ph.D. in Engineering Science at LSU in May 2002) for winning the LSU Alumni Distinguished Dissertation Award for 2002 (the highest Ph.D. Dissertation Award at LSU). Professor Triantaphyllou was Vetle's Major Professor during his doctoral studies at LSU. Please note that this the second Ph.D. Dissertation award for Vetle this year! • CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Vetle I. Torvik (Ph.D. in Engineering Science at LSU in May 2002) for winning the College of Engineering Exemplary Dissertation Award for 2002 (click here to see this award). • CONGRATULATIONS to Aniruddha S. Deshpande (M.S. in IE, 1995) and Egemen Yilmaz (M.S. in IE, 2000), (Professor Triantaphyllou was their Major Professor during their studies at LSU) who were both awarded one Summit Award each for excellent performance in 2001 from GE Capital (click here to see Aniruddha's award and here to see Egemen's award). This is the second highest award in the company. Aniruddha and Egemen have been among the best graduate students Dr. Triantaphyllou ever had. • In 2001 Dr. Triantaphyllou received a Dean's Book Award for his book: Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods: A Comparative Study, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, The Netherlands, Fall of 2000, "in recognition for this scholarly publication." This award was accompanied with a $1,000 honorarium.



• In 2000 Rafael C. Estrella and Vetle I. Torvik, two Ph.D. students of Dr. Triantaphyllou, each received a Louisiana Engineering Foundation's Vincent A. Forte Graduate School Fellowship for 2000. This prestigious fellowship is accompanied by $2,000 for each award. Only two such awards were available for the entire State of Louisiana. These two students were selected among many candidates from the State of Louisiana and received the only two such awards for 2000 "because of their outstanding accomplishments and their desire to enter the teaching profession in the field of engineering."



• The 1998 Research Award by the OR Division of the Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIE), ( a national award ). This award was given to Dr. Triantaphyllou for his work on data mining and especially for the development of the OCAT (One Clause At a Time) approach (please see our Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery web page for more details). This award is presented each year to a person who has made important, significant contributions to the field of Operations Research. Recent past awardees are:
