LSU helps unravel code of rhesus DNA

LSU has played a key role in unlocking primate DNA that could help develop vaccines to combat AIDS and other diseases. The results of the massive multi-institutional DNA project studying the rhesus macaque monkey were published Friday 13, 2007 as the cover story of Science magazine.

Dr. Brygg Ullmer collaborated with Dr. Mark Batzer's genomics lab in this project. Dr. Byrgg Ullmer, along with Miriam Konkel used Mike Sr. and Jr., Santaka, Helix, some testing on the LONI BlueDawg and Ducky P5's et al to compute over several weeks with several hundred processors what would have taken 20-30 years nonstop on Miriam's desktop computer.

Below are some of the news articles about this Rhesus genome sequencing project. More than 200 newspaper articles on this altogether have been published since Thursday (12 Apr, 2007) afternoon.
