Professor Joel Moses
Abstract:
His talk will focus on understanding large and complex systems, and in understanding the
architecture of the brain as it performs symbolic reasoning. Professor Moses also has
interests in product design, software development and artificial intelligence.
About the Speaker:
Joel Moses is an Institute Professor, Professor of Computer Science and
Engineering, and Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT. His prior positions at MIT
have included Provost, Dean of Engineering, Head of the Department of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Associate Head of EECS, and Associate Director of the
Laboratory for Computer Science.
Professor Moses is a member of the National Academy of
Engineering, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American
Association for the Advancement of Sciences, and of the IEEE. He is currently
a member of the National Research Council's Committee on Research Directions
for Information Technology, and Committee on Human Resources for Information
Technology.
He is also a member of the NAE Committee on Engineering
Education. Professor Moses is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution, and of Analog Devices, Inc. He serves on the
advisory boards of the Columbia University Fu School of Engineering and Applied
Science, the Hebrew University School of Engineering, and the University of
Michigan School of Engineering.
