Title:Ocean Observing System - Participation in Database, Website Design and Implementation

Abstract:
The Ocean Observing System for coastal Louisiana involves offshore deployment of instrumentation around the entire state in order to provide real time information on a frequent basis (1 hour or 3 hours) describing sea state, surface current and meteorological conditions. Information from each station is transmitted by a solar powered cellular link to a base station at Louisiana State University where it undergoes quality control, post-processing and archiving in an online database. In this M.S. project, I design and implement some of the procedures supporting this online data retrieval/display functionality. The core ER database is designed using SQL Server 7 to store, opti mize and retrieve the data, including the raw data and post-processed and qualified data which is coded by C. The website for the system is designed and implemented using Active Service Page, and various data displays are available for the real time information as well as a specified time history for archived data in this project.
